Phil Pohlodek’s musical journey began with a Rock n’ Roll cassette from his Jazz musician grandfather when he still was a toddler. His lifelong fascination for all aspects of music culminated in him becoming a DJ around 2007 and led him to be a performance artist and promoter of various events. First spinning all vinyl Dubstep, he was soon performing in underground venues and alternative radio shows around Switzer- land. Continuously expanding his artistic horizon, he has been DJing different styles of music using various pseudonyms in Europe and Latin America. Alternatively he is also performing as part of the infamous elec- tro-punk project «Kommando Trash».
In the last couple of years Phil has been building a re- putation as DJ and promoter in the Tropical/Global-Bass scene as «Jelipe Jalapeño». While travelling Latin Ame- rica and living in Mexico, he found his passion for fol- kloric music and its newly amalgamated dance oor adaptations. Being rooted in the western dance music tradition he believes that the ancestral and the modern, the aboriginal-rural and the futuristic-urban facets of musical culture are no more than two lost brothers lon- ging to be united. This approach is re ected in his DJ- sets with a broad variety of in uences from Caribbean rhythms to modulated synth lines, African drums with Oriental and Latin-American melodies, Berlin techno snares and a dash of Disco perpetuating the groove to please all senses and make the hips move. Recent de- velopments also include him collaborating as producer, preparing Edits and Remixes for his performances.
Currently a resident DJ at Turnhalle Bar/Club, he is also the promoter and curator of various events in Bern, Switzerland. He is a founding member of the «Spie- gelkiste Independent Artist Collective» – together they organize numerous parties from underground Techno/ House raves like the bi-monthly «In der Kiste» (Inside the box) at the cities most renowned squat to more mainstream-oriented parties like the «Spicy Tropical Dance Night». As artist and host Phil is participating in numerous successful events with more collaborations and projects in the pipeline.
